This Leytonstone garden ended up with a new porcelain patio, a rebuilt deck, a gazebo and a smaller BBQ and bar shelter. It started with a deck that was close to failing.
The Starting Point
The clients' existing deck had a rotted timber frame and was about to fail. The plan we agreed at the start was to replace or repair a few joists and keep the rest.
A Change of Plan
Once the work started and we could see the state of the frame, the clients decided to replace the whole deck. We took it out and rebuilt it on an aluminium decking frame.
What We Built
- Porcelain patio: about 20m² of porcelain paving from London Stone, laid on a standard 100mm MOT sub-base
- Deck: about 30m² of decking from London Stone on the aluminium frame, over weed membrane
- Gazebo: the larger of the two structures, supplied for us to assemble
- BBQ and bar shelter: a smaller structure, also supplied for us to assemble
- Rainwater gutters: we added gutters to the structures
If you're choosing between decking materials, our decking materials guide compares them honestly. For the stone side, see our paving stone and porcelain guide.
Access Through the House
Access to the garden was through the house, so the materials went in that way. That takes planning on a job with about 50m² of paving and decking.
The Result
The garden now has a porcelain patio under the gazebo, a deck running up to the house, and a covered BBQ and bar area, all in one scheme.
